Many of you must have heard about doodles before and some haven’t. For a few years, ‘Doodles’ have become quite popular among people. And the top most loved ones among the doodle category is Labradoodle and Goldendoodle.

Basically, doodles are a crossbreed of two dog breeds. The mixing of the traits of a Poodle with another dog breed creates a “Doodle”. If you are confused between the two breeds, check this detailed comparison before making any decision. We will start comparing the Labradoodle and Goldendoodle point by point.

About

Labradoodle

Labradoodle is a mix of Poddle and Labrador Retriever. This crossbreeding gives rise to the playful creature. Their life span is for around 12-16 years.

Their energy level is very high, drooling is low and the barking level is infrequent.

They are flexible in their living style. The bigger Labradoodle will need sufficient space for his activities. But, if you don’t have enough space in your home, then you need to make sure they go to any dog park very often and get sufficient exercise.

Labradoodles are generally happy while living with other dogs, but they are also fine if they are left alone for exercise or stretches.

Goldendoodle

And Goldendoodle is created by mixing the traits of Golden Retriever and Poodle. Goldendoodles serves as a successful guide dog, therapy dog, or in any form of assistance. They are available in the miniature and standard version and the energy level is moderate. They are very well trained for this thing.

The tendency to drooling, snoring, barking and digging is low.

The fun fact is that Goldendoodles are mostly the first-generation breed, which means that most of the pups are born after the first breeding between the Poodle and the Golden Retriever. It is rarely found that two Goldenpoodles are bred to get a puppy.

Thus, Labradoodle and Goldendoodle are one of the best choices because of their loyal and friendly nature. Moreover, they have a hypoallergenic coat.

Origin

The Labraddodle

In 1988, Wally Cochran bred the first Labradoodles in Australia. He created this breed to help a blind woman. The woman’s husband was allergic to dogs and because of her blindness, she couldn’t help her husband more often.

Thus, he made a plan to create a breed that has the good-natured quality of a Labrador Retriever and the hypoallergenic quality of a poodle.

It was not easy for Wally to find the right poodle for the crossbreeding. He sent 33 dog hair samples to a couple for the allergic test. And then he finally settled on the Labrador and the standard poodle, and thus Labradoodle was born.

The Goldendoodle

Goldendoodle is a result of crossbreeding Golden Retriever and Poodle. For the first time, they were bred in the late 80s or in the early 90s. But it is difficult to put an exact date.

Golden Retrievers are widely popular for their loyalty and obedience and the Poodles are famous for their smartness. So it is pretty obvious that people would want a combination of these two.

Goldendoodles sheds lesser than the Golden Retriever. And the goldens are the head in the shedder’s community, hence it is the main reason they cause allergies to people.

Their size and color

Labradoodles

Depending on the parentage, Labradoodles vary in different sizes and colors. The standard Labradoodle has a height between 22-24 inches and will weigh around 50-65 pounds. The smaller medium-sized Labradoodles will weigh around 30-45 pounds with a height of around 18-20 inches.

And the Labraddodle’s type of coating depends upon the percentage of Poodle traits he inherits. The coating can be Straight, or wavy, or curly. The curlier ones require extra care because they are more prominent in tangling and matting situations.

Labradoodle is the best fit for people who possess allergy issues or hate to clean the dog hair mess because these dogs are meant to shed lesser hair.

Goldendoodles

Goldendoodles are also found in various sizes and colors. The standard one weighs 55-50 pounds and has a height of about 22 inches. And their smaller version weighs around 35-50 pounds. However, there’s even a smaller version that can be around 20 pounds.

Similarly, their coats also vary in textures and colors. Goldendoodles can have wavy or curly hair. And their coat can be in different colors like grey, silver, tan, black, orange, and white.

These dogs also need constant care of their hair, so brushing them and taking them to a groomer would be the best.

Similar to the Labradoodles, these dogs’ color and size also depend on the percentage of traits they possess from their parents.

Temperament of Doodle

Labradoodles

Because of Labradoodle’s loyalty, friendly and playful nature, they tend to be a wonderful choice for becoming a pet. They love being around other people and easily get along with other pets.

Labradoodles don’t make a good guard dog, because they treat the family and the guests likewise with full enthusiasm.

One thing you must know is that if they feel neglected, they can become destructive and mischievous. They are attention seekers, and if you don’t give them enough attention, they can behave badly. It has been noticed that they will chew your furniture or will excessively bark due to lack of exercise or attention.

Labradoodles

Labradoodles are very energetic dogs and they require lots of exercises. So it is ideal to take them for long walks, hikes or runs. A fenced-in backyard would also be ideal, but preferably it would be nicer if you make them for doing high-energy required activities. The reason is simple, your dog will release his excess energy and it will keep him on track.

Labradoodles also enjoy tracking, agility training, and herding. This breed loves water, which he has inherited from his Retriever genes.

It is important to note that Labradoodles are not a good choice for apartment settings because they have a high activity level. And a small space can make them a little uncomfortable or suffocated.

Goldendoodles

Goldendoodles are also very energetic dogs but compare to Labradoodles they might require lesser exercise. A moderate 30 minutes exercise on a daily basis would be good enough for them. Similar to the Labradoodles, they also enjoy hiking, running and can easily keep up any active family.
